As we're about to begin the new semester, I wanted to remind everyone about USC's upcoming Engineering week next month. The open house, which is geared toward K - 12 students, will be on Saturday, February 20. It really is fun for the whole family! See below for more details.
National Engineers Week
Mark your calendar for National Engineers Week - February 21-27, 2016.
Engineers and computer scientists innovate, create and solve problems. They are key to our healthy, safety and happiness. When children and teens get to experience engineering and computer science, they realize how interesting and fun these professions can be. That's why the National Engineers Week Foundation – and the College of Engineering and Computing – are dedicated to attracting and cultivating the next generation of engineers and computer scientists.
During Engineers Week, the college hosts numerous exciting public activities including a special open house geared toward kindergarten through 12th grade students. The open house, set for February 20, 2016, is held at the Swearingen Engineering Center on the UofSC Columbia campus.
The free event features dozens of interactive exhibits that highlight our academic programs and research including:
- Fuel cell demonstrations
- Electric and hybrid vehicles
- A concrete canoe
- A cornstarch pool
- Robots
- Computer games
- Soda bottle water rocket
- Segway rides
- Hands-on projects for kids.
