ASTHMA BLOG

Parents, as the weather gets colder, breathing gets harder! Cooler temperatures can sometimes cause Asthma symptoms to worsen. Providing your student’s inhaler or emergency medication to the health room assists us in managing their Asthma or Reactive Airway Disease. You may obtain a medication permission form on the Info Snap website, or your student is welcome to stop by the health room any time for the form.

**Please remember a doctor’s signature is required for all prescription medications as well as a parent signature, and the medication must be labeled in the original container. The forms can be faxed back to Nurse Harris at 803-699-5891, and students can bring Inhalers to the Health Room first thing in the morning, we arrive at 7am. Please don’t hesitate to call the Health Room with any questions or concerns at 803-699-3580 ext. 3426. Thank you for helping us keep your student Healthy and Learning! ☺

Dear Parents,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we're joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students!
Our Hour of Code is a statement that Summit Parkway Middle School is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills.  We will participate in the Hour of Code on Monday, December 8, 2014.   See http://hourofcode.com/us for details, and help spread the word.
Sincerely,
Janice Wylie, Technology and Learning Coach

Summit Parkway Celebrates Veteran's Day

Summit Parkway Middle School celebrated Veterans Day with respect, integrity, and pride as they made several special events for veterans, their children, and their families. The day began with a Veteran's Breakfast which included military children "pinning" their parents with American Flag Pins. This pinning ceremony, along with the Student Ambassadors, were under the leadership of Mrs. Nellie Jones, who is the Summit Parkway Middle School Counselor Military Liaison. The breakfast was followed by an assembly for families and the entire student body.

The assembly was hallmarked by school performing groups, student speakers, and two special Veteran speakers. First Sergeant Torey D. Mosley Sr., Bravo Company, Task Force Marshall, 171 Infantry Brigade and Major Sean Maly, U.S. Army, a faculty veteran, were the keynote speakers. What a great way to honor those who serve our country!

InforSnap and Responsible Use Policy (RUP)

InfoSnap and Responsible Use Policy (RUP)

Richland School District Two sent out an email to parents of all returning students about the new Infosnap system in early August. This system updates and collects the information about each student enrolled in schools and this process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year.

The Infosnap system is now used to sign the Responsible Use Procedures or RUPOnly students with an signed/accepted RUP on file will be able to be issued and allowed to use a Chromebook as part of the 1TWO1 computing program. New students that were enrolled this school year using the Infosnap system have the RUP completed as part of their registration.

If you have checked for an email from the district and didn't find one, please bring a picture ID to campus to receive your missing snap code from the front office staff. If you have not electronically signed the RUP, please do so as soon as possible or request a paper copy from your child's homeroom teacher.

NOTE: Only students with a signed RUP on file will be able to use a device at Summit Parkway Middle School in accordance with District policy.

Chromebook Cases

Parents,

Your child's blue Chromebook case has been officially assigned to your child until he or she graduates from 12th grade.

The cases are being sent home this Friday, May 30 for the summer to clean and store.  Please follow these instructions to wash the case.

  1. Make sure the case is empty.
  2. Wash the empty case in the washing machine.
  3. Do not put the case in the dryer.  Hang it up to dry with the zipper opened.  It might take a couple of days for it to dry completely, but It will look and smell a lot fresher!
  4. Students must bring their case to whichever RSD2 middle or high school they will attend on the first day of school in August.
  5. Chromebooks will not be issued to any students next school year until they bring in their blue case.  All students must use the Chromebook case issued by Richland 2 and may not purchase any other personal case. If they lose the case over the summer, they will be charged $33 for a new case. Take care of it, please.
